Barbara Jean (Smith) Hardesty, 77, of Sandyville, WV, passed away July 11, 2026 following a brief illness.

She was born October 17, 1948 in Charleston, WV, a daughter of the late Norman Earl and Flossie Gladys (Wolfingbarger) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leonard, Ronnie, Donnie and James Alton "Ick" Smith.

She was a 1967 graduate of Ravenswood High School. She was a former employee for the gas company and the Holiday Inn, Ripley, WV. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and working seek a word puzzles.

Survivors include her daughter, Melissa Dawn Hardesty Riggs (Rick Sisson); grandchildren, Jennifer L. (Ryan) Kendall and Brandon D. Riggs; and brother, Doyle Smith.

Service will be 1 p.m. ~ Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood, WV, with Ricky Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery, Sandyville, WV. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time-of-service Thursday at the funeral home.
