Connie Marie (Shultz) McCarty, 76, of Letart, WV, passed away July 7, 2026 in Holzer Health System, Gallipolis, OH, with her family by her bedside.

She was born February 1, 1950, in Elmwood, WV, a daughter of the late Homer Alex Schultz and Phyllis Mae (Barr) Wheeler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Daniel "Boone" Schultz and Dannie Schultz; sister, Angela Shirley; half-sister, Vicki Wheeler.

She was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School and received her Masters degree in English from Marshall University. She was a homemaker and a teacher with the Mason County School system with 20 plus years of service. Connie enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening and her animals.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Leonard Fillmore McCarty Jr.; daughter, Stephanie McCarty of Letart, WV; brother, Alex (Brenda) Schultz of Point Pleasant, WV; sister, Treva (Gail) Clutter of Mt. Alto, WV; step-brother Dale (Judy) Wheeler of Parkersburg; step-sister, Gwendolyn (Marion) Young of Columbus, OH; sister in law Beulah Schultz of Leon; grandchildren, Joshua McCarty of Athens, OH and Stephen Dowell of Letart, WV; great grandson, Leo McCarty.

Private visitation for the family will be held at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV.
