Denward Dexter "Dave" Herdman, 86, of Cottageville, WV, passed away May 16, 2026, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born November 23, 1939, in Leon, WV, a son of the late Aley Opal and Blanch (Hughes) Herdman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean (Nolan) Herdman; brother, Gene Herdman; sister, Sylvia Waldon.

He was a Pastor, carpenter and farmer. Dave was a United States Navy veteran. He enjoyed his cattle, chickens and collecting knives and coins. He was a member of Mercy Baptist Church, Evans, WV.

Survivors include his sons, Dan (Pam) Herdman of Cottageville, Gene Mark Herdman of Cottageville, Pastor John (Amy) Herdman of Gray, TN; daughter, Julia (Randy) Kinder of Anchor Point, AK; sister, Leota Miller of Grove City, OH; grandchildren, Michea, Talena, Jared, Madeline, Allison and Lilly; great-grandchildren, Jase, Kasen and Carson.

Service will be 10 a.m. ~ Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Pastor John Herdman, Bradley Goodwin and Jared Herdman officiating. Burial will follow in Sayre Cemetery, Cottageville, WV. Military honors will be provided by the Jackson County Honor Guard. Visitation will be Friday, May 22, 2026 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Fresenius Kidney Care and the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center, Huntington, WV for their care and support during this time.
