Fred Russell Sayre, 73, of Ripley, WV, passed away January 21, 2024, in Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, WV, following an extended illness.

He was born January 23, 1950, in Evans, WV, a son of the late Russell E. and Laura Mildred (Hayes) Sayre. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Orville Ray "Sonny" Sayre; sister, Mary Westfall.

He was a graduate of Ripley High School. He was a former coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers Union. Fred, was the owner/operator of Fred's Service Center in Pratt, WV. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his son, Scott B. Sayre of Charleston, WV; daughters, Tina R. Nelson and her husband Jimmy of Scott Depot, WV and Angela D. King and her husband Stephen of Wyoming; sister Bertha M. Casto of Texas; companion of 14 years, Sherrie Lynn Elswick and her extended family; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. ~ Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Pastor David Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville, WV. Calling hours will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.,  at the funeral home.
