Garrel Lee "GL" Johnson Jr. , 84, of Cottageville, WV, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, in the Hospice House at CAMC Memorial, Charleston, WV.

He was born April 13, 1938, in Meridian, Mississippi, a son of the late Girrel Lee Sr. and Katie Lee (Jarman) Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Katrina (Glenn) Johnson; son, Tom Johnson; brothers, James B. Johnson, Douglas Johnson, Harvey Johnson and three sisters, Alice Dikes, Hazel Burns, and Jane Mott.

Garrel was a retired Boilermaker with Local 667, Winfield, WV, where he was also a member of 56 years. He was very musically inclined, and loved playing the piano and other various instruments. Garrel enjoyed woodworking, running weed eaters, hunting, fishing, working on tractors and heavy equipment. Most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Rosie Liter and her husband, Richard of Long Bottom, OH, Melvin Johnson of Mount Pleasant, TN, Paul Gibson and his wife, Sharon of Bloomington, IN, Mark Johnson and his wife, Renee of Cottageville, Tim Johnson and his wife, Sherri of Boaz, WV, Girrel Lee Johnson III and his wife, Anna of Cottageville, WV; brothers, Lester Johnson, Julius Johnson, Felix Johnson, Glenn Johnson, Henry Johnson; sister, Marlene Lovelace; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

There will be no public services at this time. Private interment will be at Blaine Memorial Cemetery, Cottageville.
