Harry Joe Smith, Sr., 81, of Ripley, WV, passed away February 11, 2025, at home.

He was born October 10, 1943, in Hartford, WV, a son of the late Walter and Sadie (Lyons) Smith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers;  Robert Smith, David Smith, Clifford Smith, and sisters; Betty James, Phyllis Hendricks, and Carolyn Burge.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman in every sense of the word. His love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, bow shooting, wood working, deer processing, and teaching those of us that were fortunate enough to be close to him all he knew about everything he held dear to his heart. These were only trumped by his love for God, his country, his family and his friends. He was a member of the Flatwoods Community Church. He was a United States Army Vietnam Veteran, and a member of the American Legion, Post 140, New Haven, WV.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Angela Gale (Zerkle) Smith; son, Joey Smith (Erica) of Ripley, WV; daughter, Melissa Bumgarner (Wesley) of New Haven, WV; grandchildren, Tyler Bumgarner and Brycen Bumgarner of New Haven, WV; sister, Donna Jean Ginther of Syracuse, OH.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the Flatwoods Community Church with Pastor Donnie Dye officiating. Burial will follow at the Flatwoods Community Church Cemetery, 6752 Crooked Run Road Ravenswood, WV 26164.
