Hilma "Gayle" (Corbitt) Bailes, 91, of Evergreen Hills, Cottageville, WV passed away at her home on May 13, 2023 after an extended illness. Gayle, the daughter of the late Edith Corbitt, was born at Mt. Nebo, WV. She was also preceded in death by her aunt and uncle who raised her Herschel and Gladys Nickel.

She married her childhood sweetheart, Eugene. They were married for 68 years before his death. They raised 3 daughters: Robin (Charles) Taylor of Charleston, Jeanna Bailes (Rob Belcher) of Ripley and Dena (David) Williams of Ravenswood.

Gayle loved the Lord and was a member of the Evergreen Hills Freewill Baptist Church. There she served as secretary, Sunday School teacher and BYF leader.

Gayle and Gene loved camping. They created many wonderful memories traveling in their motorhome across the U.S. including 3 trips to Alaska.

Gayle was preceded in death by a beloved grandson, Ryan Taylor.

Left to cherish her memory are:

Grandchildren: Scot and Bracken Compston; Allison Taylor; Kyle, Jordan and Patrick (Tiki) Williams; and adopted by heart; Jennifer (Todd) McConaughy, Chris (LeeErica) Mentzer, as well as Beth Mentzer of Dallas, TX.

Gayle also had seven great grandchildren, whom she dearly loved.

Service will be 11 am ~ Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Evergreen Hills Freewill Baptist Church, Cottageville, WV with Pastors, Allen Donaldson and Mark Price officiating. Graveside service will be 4 p.m. ~ Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Mt. Nebo, WV. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2023 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV
