Jeannette Ruth (Sayre) Houchen, 94, of Cottageville, WV, passed away May 19, 2022 at Charleston General Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born January 15, 1928, in Cottageville, WV, a daughter of the late Ronald Early and Edna Isabelle (Ankrum) Sayre. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Houchen; sons, Tracy, Gary, Rick and Mitch Houchen; brother, Rev. Gerald B. Sayre; sister, Mabel Skeen; daughter in law, Karen L Houchen.

She was a graduate of Ripley High School. She was a former employee of the West Virginia Department of Highways as a dispatcher. She was a former EM.T. for Jackson County later retired from Jackson General Hospital with many years of service as an emergency room nurse. She was a member of the Cottageville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed aerobics, working the election polls and filling in at Dr Vaidya and Dr. Vongsnacorn's offices.

She was a member of the Jackson County Democratic Women's Club.

She is survived by five grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. ~ Monday, May 23, 2022 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Pastor Vera Archer officiating. Entombment will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time-of-service Monday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank her nieces Lynette and Patsy for their care of Jeannette over these past few months.
