Joyce O. Burgess, 71, of Cottageville, WV, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus, September 16, 2021, in CAMC General in Charleston, WV, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born July 11, 1950 in Ripley, WV and was the daughter of the late Lewis Gerald and Monnie Victoria (Fields) Mahood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Burgess; brother, Elmer Mahood; sister, Vonnie Harper.

She was a cook at Cedar Lakes and enjoyed crafting, gardening and loved her family.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Roger Ray Burgess of Cottageville, WV; son, Steven Lee Mahood of Mount Olive, WV; daughter, Victoria Lynn Shinn (Eddie) of Cottageville, WV; and two grandchildren, Olivia May (Caleb) McDaniel of St. Albans and Edward Ray Shinn of Cottageville; brothers, Jerry, James and Delmer Mahood all of Ripley; sister, Susie (Jeff) Poe of Ripley; several nieces, nephews, cousins and her fur babies Sissy and Tony.

Service will be 1:00 PM ~ Monday, September 20, 2021 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV with Pastor Herman Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan Cemetery, Leon, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the family.
