Joyce Anne [McDermott] McCoy , beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025 at her home at the age of 83. Her life was a beautiful testament to love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to family and community.

Born to Lucille Dean McDermott and Daniel O. McDermott, Joyce grew up with a passion for creativity and connection. She was a woman of many talents and accomplishments. She was crowned Polio Queen, Homecoming Queen, L.K. Queen, and WVU Homecoming Princess in her youth. She was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and a cherished performer in The Sammon's Merry Makers, a song and dance troupe that entertained audiences across West Virginia and Ohio, even gracing the airwaves of Radio WPAR in Parkersburg every Saturday morning.

Joyce had natural warmth and an extraordinary ability to bring people together. Whether hosting a casual backyard cookout or a grand five-course dinner, she delighted in entertaining family and friends. Her love of gardening and flower arranging filled her home with beauty, and she found joy in journaling, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and playing the piano. She was an active member of the Ravenswood Garden Club and the Buckhannon Jaycettes, where she helped choreograph the Strawberry Festival Queen's pageant. Her faith was an essential part of her life, and she was a devoted member of First Methodist Church in Milan, TN, and later, Ravenswood First Methodist Church.

Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She treasured every moment spent watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow, always celebrating their accomplishments with love and enthusiasm. Her family fondly nicknamed her "Spam-ma", as she was known for sending humorous messages at all hours, keeping loved ones entertained with her quick wit and playful spirit.

Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Dr. James C. McCoy, as well as her parents, and brothers-in-law John Paul, Ed, Dave Whitman, and nephew Joe McCoy and her cousins; Sybil [McDermott] Lockney and Doris [McDermott] Savage.

She leaves behind a family filled with love and gratitude for the time they shared with her. Her children, Jeffrey Dean (Stephanie), Cottageville, WV, Patrick Daniel (Robin), Ravenswood, WV, Erin Paige (David) McCoy Stovall, Ravenswood, WV; her grandchildren whom she adored, Jeffrey Daniel (Cassi), Evans, WV, James Caleb (Cara), Covington, KY, Annie Paige Hoskins (Cam), Ripley, WV, Colten (Lauren) Stovall; her great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness, Cade and Jacob, Evans, WV, Maddox, Caroline, Miller, A.J., Covington, KY, Duvon and Yoni Stovall and also Simon, who was like family to her.

Joyce's warmth, humor, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She had an incredible ability to make everyone feel special, whether through a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or a perfectly timed joke. Her infectious laughter, generous spirit, and boundless love for her family and friends created a legacy of joy that will be cherished for generations to come.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV with the Rev. Shauna Hyde officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in her honor.
