Mary Pugh, of Ripley, West Virginia, passed into eternal life Wednesday, July 8 th , 2026.

Mary was 83 years old and was a beloved elementary school teacher in Jackson County Schools for over thirty years; she continued to substitute teach, tutor, and review portfolios for students after retirement as her passion for the job continued to burn bright. Mary was a devout Christian and attended Church of God in Evans and Ravenswood. She is remembered for her generosity and devoted service with youth in camps, Bible quiz teams, and church functions.

Mary enjoyed sewing, crafts, puzzles, and games. But most of all she loved time with her family at Sunday dinners, on holidays, babysitting, or vacationing at the beach. Mary was active in Red Hat Society for many years and excelled as a masterful cook and candy maker.

She was preceded in death by Arthur, her husband of 60 years, her parents and several siblings.

Mary is survived by and will be remembered by her children, grandchildren, some siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless former students and colleagues.

Mary supported St. Jude's Hospital where donations in her honor are
appreciated in lieu of flowers.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. ~ Sunday, July 12, 2026 in Independence Cemetery, Sandyville, WV.
