Pansy
Sayre
Oct 23, 1932 — Apr 27, 2025
Pansy (Mullins) Sayre, 92, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025, at her home, following a brief illness.
She was born October 23, 1932, in London, KY, a daughter of the late James and Miranda Jane (Parsons) Mullins.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Sayre; daughter, Cathy Baron; granddaughter Haylee Williams; sisters, Zula, Avis, Naomi, Minnie, Elizabeth, Violet and Evelyn; brothers, Kenny, Josh, James "Red", and Champ.
Pansy was a homemaker for many years, and once her 4 children were grown she went to work at the Swanton Wire Factory, then the Wauseon Wire Factory. She also worked for Hickory Farms, in quality control, and went on to work at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, OH. Pansy began working in housekeeping where she worked for eight years until the front desk receptionist position became available. She learned it required a high school diploma, which she did not have. They held the position until she obtained her GED. Because she was so well read and loved learning, it only took her eight weeks. During her working years she noticed other workers spending a lot of their money on vending snacks, and decided to make and sell her own homemade treats. She also made and sold Stretch and Sow t-shirts, jewelry and oil painting. During the Cabbage Patch Doll era, she made and sold 113 dolls of her own. One year, Pansy secretly entered her items into the Lucas County Fair, in Toledo, Ohio, just to see what would happen. Out of hundreds of entries, she won the blue ribbons. When asked if she was going to enter next year, she stated, "I don't need to, once is enough." Upon retirement in 1993, Pansy and her husband moved to Jackson county, where they enjoyed gardening each year and always fed anyone that stopped over. Following the passing of her husband, she decided to find a new purpose, her doctor suggested exercise, and after reading an ad in the newspaper, she found the perfect activity. A slow movement exercise to improve balance with no sweating as to not mess up her hair, she found a love in Tai Chi. She said she had found some of the nicest people she had ever met in her life through that. She attended Colemen Chapel Church, Ravenswood, WV. Pansy was always proud to announce that she never had to wear a pair of blue jeans, and she had never drank alcohol, or smoked a cigarette in her life.
Survivors include son, Danny Sayre of Crossville, TN; daughters, Debra (Bob) Williams of Millwood, WV and Corinne (Joe) Abbott, of Ravenswood, WV; four grandchildren, John H. Baron, Gregory A. Baron, Nicholas C. Sayre, and Lindsay M. Yeager; one great grandchild, Benjamin Sayre.
Per her wishes, there will be no public services at this time.
