Sidney Hugh Spencer, 90 , of Cottageville, WV, passed away April 12, 2023, at his home following a brief illness.

He was born June 25, 1932, in Chapmanville, WV, a son of the late Harlin C. and Ida (Thompson) Spencer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Amanda Louise (Akers) Spencer; son, Robert Martin Spencer; daughter, Kelly Louise Spencer; brother Kenneth H. Spencer; sisters, Alma E. Fitzpatrick, Judith D. Nelson, Florence M. Gilman and Minnie L. Spencer.

He was a United States Navy veteran. He was retired from Century Aluminum with 34 years of service and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local # 5668 Ravenswood. He was a member of the Mt. Alto Church of Christ and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and bluegrass music.

Survivors include his son, Michael Spencer of Evans; daughter, Jackie Burrows of Cottageville; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. ~ Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Minister Jeff Banton officiating. Burial will follow in Blaine Memorial Cemetery, Cottageville, WV with military honors provided by the Jackson County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2023 at the funeral home.
