Virgil Lee Kessel , 95, of Evans, WV passed away February 6, 2025 at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley.

He was born October 19, 1929 in Advent, WV the son of the late Kenna Kelvey and Mary Ann (Chapman) Kessel.

Virgil was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran and served as a Staff Sergeant during the Koren War. He retired from Republic Steel and LTV Steel in Nitro, WV. He was a member of the United Steelworker Union, member of the Centennial Community Church and a former member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed bowling, softball, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Grace M. (Kay) Kessel; daughters, Dreama Parsons of Charleston, Diana Watkins (Roger) of Leasburg, NC, Melanie Hunt (Gregg) of St. Albans and Beverly Donovan (Jeff) of Fredericksburg, VA; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV with Pastor Deron Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Moss Chapel Cemetery, Given. Military honors will be provided by the Jackson County Marine Corps League. Visitation will be from 12 noon until time of service at the funeral home on Sunday.
